Welding Technology Student Competitions
Ferris State University High School Welding Competition
The St. Clair TEC Welding Technology program had five students compete at the Ferris State University High School Welding Competition in Big Rapids on Friday May 9, 2014. Ray Wisniewski placed 4th in SMAW Advanced, Brad Thompson placed 5th in the combined category, Ricky Nemitz placed 6th in GMAW, Brett Ross placed 7th in GTAW and William Zeeman place 1st in Oxy-Fuel Welding. William received a $1,000 scholarship and a complete welding kit from Miller Electric. Ray received a Lincoln auto darkening welding hood. There were 156 competitors participated in the competition and St. Clair TEC students placed within the top ten in all five categories. The kids had a great day at Ferris and congratulations to them!

Boilermaker's State High School Student Competition
Four students from the St. Clair TEC Welding technology program competed in a state welding competition Friday May 2, 2014 at the Boilermakers local 169 Union Training Center in Allen Park. TEC students competed against 70 other high school welding students from 16 schools from all over the state. Ricky Nemitz from Marysville placed first, Glen Elliott from Port Huron finished in 9th place, Brad Thompson Memphis finished in 10th place and Dana O'Rourke from Marine City finished in 29th Place Ricky is the first TEC welder to place first in the 12 years the boilermakers have been hosting this competition. Instructor Jeff Holsworth says that all four students gave 100% and fun was had by all J Congrats !!!
