Teacher Exploration

The Teacher Exploration program is designed for high school students who demonstrate an interest in becoming certified teachers. Instruction takes place at the TEC facility and includes significant opportunities for a variety of off-site field experiences at local elementary, middle and high schools.

Students learn about careers as teachers by completing classroom instruction and also by placement in a variety of classroom settings from grades K-12. Short-term experiences in pre-primary education may be provided based upon student interest and availability.

Specific areas of study include:

  • Human growth and development
  • Learning theory
  • Learning environments
  • Educational settings
  • Planning and lesson preparation (lesson plans)
  • Instructional strategies
  • Ethics and legal responsibilities
  • Professional responsibilities and teaching
  • Employability

Please note: Students are required to provide their own transportation to all off-site field experiences. Students may spend the majority of their time involved in field experiences during the second year of the program.
