Math & Science Academy of St. Clair County

The Math & Science Academy of St. Clair County is designed to give some of St. Clair County's brightest and academically ambitious students a local alternative to such elite private Detroit-area high schools as Cranbrook, University Liggett, Detroit Country Day and the Macomb County Math & Science Center.

Each year, 20 sophomores will earn a place in the academy, sponsored by the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency and set on the campus of St. Clair County Community College. They will continue in the academy through their junior and senior years.

Students enroll in advanced mathematics and science classes, with the opportunity for an elective class as well.

Classes are conducted weekday mornings on the community college campus in downtown Port Huron. College instructors teach the classes, and both high school and college credit are offered for successfully completing each class.

Students attend college in the morning, then return to their home schools for afternoon classes and extracurricular activities such as band or athletics.

Each class includes at least one student from each of the nine county high schools who meets the academy's rigorous academic standards.
