Going beyond the book
Extend your child's learning beyond the book
On the back of every book is a mailing label with:
The child's name - Children can see their name everyday. Practice reading and spelling their name before kindergarten.
The child's address - children can learn their address before entering kindergarten
The month the book was sent - children can work on the months of the year, the season the months in and the month of their birthday.
Books can be used for:
Stacking all the books the child has received
Counting the books that are stacked
Seeking similarities and differences between all of the books
Activities to promote literacy
Help promote literacy with your child with some of these activities.
Talk and Sing
Use rhymes
Repeat sounds the child makes
Tell stories about your childhood
Read and Make Books
Read your Imagination Library books
Take books with you when you have to wait
Make a touch and feel book with your child
Draw and Write
Encourage your child to use crayons and pencils at a young age
Cut play dough into letters and numbers
Use different forms of letters (blocks, magnets, puzzles, etc)
