Last week, our Second Shift Academy for middle and high school educators collaborated with Friends of the St. Clair River. Second Shift gives educators the opportunity to learn from the perspective of students and apply that knowledge to their classrooms. They began by collecting water samples at Lighthouse Beach and testing the samples for microplastics, both visible and invisible to the naked eye. Using this as an entry point to thinking about garbage as more than just litter, they were able to consider how they can use hands-on learning to encourage students to question the world around them and get them to seek knowledge based on first-hand experience. #WeAreSCCRESA #ProjectBasedLearning

As part of Michigan's new Filter First law, St. Clair County RESA has installed lead-reducing water filters and posted clear signage throughout our buildings. You'll now see signs near faucets and water-fillers indicating:
💧 Filtered Water/For Drinking: safe for drinking, food prep, and brushing teeth
🚰 Not for Drinking/Handwashing Only: safe for washing hands and dishes, but not for drinking
Even in newer buildings, lead can sometimes enter water through pipes and fixtures. These new filters add a protective layer—not because anything is wrong, but to keep everyone safer. #WeAreSCCRESA

🚌 October 20-24 is National School Bus Safety Week, a time to recognize the important role school transportation professionals play in keeping students safe every day. Whether they're behind the wheel, coordinating routes, or maintaining buses, these dedicated staff members make sure students arrive safely to and from school. Let's all do our part by staying alert in school zones, watching for flashing red lights, and stopping for school buses when their flashers are on. Together, we can help keep every student safe. #SchoolBusSafetyWeek #WeAreSCCRESA

Students in St. Clair TEC's Collision Repair program are helping give new life to the decommissioned Port Huron police cruiser recently donated to the Center's Law & Public Safety program. Students carefully removed the police decals as part of the restoration process, marking the first step in transforming the vehicle into a hands-on learning tool for future law and public safety students. What an awesome example of CTE collaboration in action! Follow along for more updates. #WeAreSCCRESA #CTE
