Congratulations to the Clever Coyotes, a team of five students who recently competed in the regional Envirothon Competition in Lapeer, Michigan. Envirothon is an environmental and natural resources conservation competition that challenges students in areas such as sustainable agriculture, wildlife, soil and geology, aquatic ecology, sustainable energy, and forestry.
The Clever Coyotes tied for first place among six competing teams, earning them a spot at the state competition, which will be held May 14-16 at Western Michigan University. The Team includes four St. Clair TEC students who are gaining hands-on experience through their work-based learning at the Pine River Nature Center, along with one Algonac High School student:
– Riley Ganger, 12th grade, Port Huron Northern High School
– Natalie Korotko, 11th-grade, Yale High School
– Sage McCombs, 12th grade, Port Huron Northern High School
– Cooper Machala, 11th-grade, Algonac High School
– Julian Walker, 11th grade, Algonac High School
The students have been studying and preparing for the event since January under the guidance of Pine River Nature Center staff Sarah Nelson and Monique Werner, who also accompanied the students to the competition.
We are so proud of the Clever Coyotes and their accomplishment. We will be cheering them on as they advance to the state competition in May!

🍿Every Friday, students from Tammy Brown's classroom at Woodland Developmental Center brighten our day with their popcorn stand—serving up smiles, skills, and positive vibes. For just 50 cents a bag, staff can purchase a tasty snack paired with an encouraging message, similar to fortune cookies. Last week, students stopped by the Administration Building to deliver popcorn and positivity. Flavors vary weekly, with favorites like butter, cheddar, and sour cream & onion. Thank you to our amazing Woodland students for making Fridays extra special! #WeAreSCCRESA
