Program can save families an estimated $14,000 per year in child care costs
Michigan officials announced record-breaking participation in PreK for All programs this morning, highlighting growing demand for free, high-quality preschool across the state. Enrollment is now open in St. Clair County for the 2026-2027 school year.
The program is open to all children who will be 4 years old by December 1, 2026, regardless of household income. By removing financial barriers to preschool access, PreK for All can save families an estimated $14,000 per year in child care costs.
Supported through Michigan’s investment in early childhood education, PreK for All classrooms in St. Clair County are led by state-licensed teachers and offer flexible options for families, including:
Full-day programs
Four- and five-day schedules
Before- and after-school care available at some locations (for a fee or through a child care scholarship)
Transportation (available in some areas)
Research shows that children who attend high-quality preschool programs are better prepared for kindergarten and long-term academic success, with stronger emotional, social, and academic skills.
“PreK for All provides a strong start for every child,” said Becky Gorinac, Director of Early Childhood Services at St. Clair County RESA. “Children who attend high-quality preschool programs develop stronger emotional, social, and academic skills, laying the foundation for success in kindergarten and beyond. We’re excited that more families across St. Clair County are exploring these opportunities and finding programs that fit their needs.”
Families can choose from 20 PreK for All locations throughout St. Clair County, including public school districts, public school academies, private child care providers, Head Start programs, and community organizations such as the YMCA. Programs are available in a variety of settings, giving families the flexibility to select a location near home, work, or a caregiver.
Families are encouraged to apply early, as some locations fill quickly.
