A student poses for the camera during last year's Fash Bash

Woodland Developmental Center students will showcase creativity, individuality, and personal style during the school’s second annual Fash Bash, featuring the theme “Recycled. Upcycled. Adaptive.”

The event will feature 24 student models and center on the idea that fashion can be expressive, sustainable, and accessible for everyone.

Students will have an active role in preparing for the show, including a field trip to thrift stores to shop for clothing. Giving students the opportunity to select their own clothing allows them to make choices, express their personalities, and take ownership of their runway looks.

For students who need adaptive clothing or accommodations, volunteers will modify selected items to make them more comfortable and accessible. Woodland staff are also stocking a school-based shopping space called “Narnia’s Closet,” giving students who are less mobile an opportunity to browse clothing and choose pieces without leaving the school.

“Reduce, Reuse, Runway.” is another theme woven throughout the event. In addition to wearing thrifted and upcycled clothing, students will participate in a recycling-related activity between runway shows.

The event will also bring together several community partners. Marysville Public Schools is donating risers for the runway. St. Clair County TEC Cosmetology students will provide hair, makeup, and nail services for the student models, while Hungry Howie’s is donating pizza for participating students and staff between shows.

Two performances are planned at Woodland Developmental Center: a 1 p.m. show for students, staff, and families, followed by a 6 p.m. show open to the public, including local agencies and community organizations. Media are encouraged to attend and cover the event.

The event is made possible through the combined efforts of Woodland staff members, volunteers, community partners, and the generosity of local donors. Together, their support is helping create an experience in which students can make choices, express themselves, and enjoy their moment on the runway.
