St. Clair County RESA toured Woodland Developmental Center during their June meeting, which was held at the school due to renovations at our Administration Building. The visit offered the opportunity to visit Woodland's classrooms and learning spaces while gaining a deeper understanding of the building's ongoing needs. Along the way, board members enjoyed seeing student artwork displayed throughout the building. As Woodland prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary this fall, visits like these help keep our board connected to the spaces that have supported generations of students. #WeAreSCCRESA

Congratulations to the nine students celebrated at Woodland Developmental Center's Completion Ceremony on June 17! Families, staff, and students gathered to honor Camryn, Joshua, Tyrique, Jenea, Adam, Trevor, Max, Joya, and Dominic. Families enjoyed a special playgroup at the Marysville Park on June 17, thanks to a partnership between our Early Childhood Services team and PBS. Tara from PBS joined the playgroup with support from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, bringing books, family resources, and fun giveaways for children and caregivers. The visit was part of an effort to build connections with families across Southeast Michigan and expand access to early learning opportunities beyond the metro Detroit area.

Thank you to PBS and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan for helping create meaningful opportunities for families to play, learn, and connect. #WeAreSCCRESA

Today is Juneteenth Freedom Day, which commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. At #WeAreSCCRESA, we believe learning about our shared history helps students better understand the world around them and one another.

More than 350 children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers joined us on June 6 for Celebrate Your Child Literacy Day, a morning of stories, laughter, learning, and family fun. Families enjoyed hands-on literacy activities, explored the St. Clair County Library System Bookmobile, connected with community partners, and discovered simple ways to support early literacy and learning at home. We were also excited to welcome representatives from MiLEAP to help us share the importance of reading and school readiness.

One of the highlights of the day? A special visit from Bluey! While we can't officially confirm who was in the costume, rumor has it that our very own Superintendent, Brenda Tenniswood, stepped in when Bluey had another commitment. The story quickly became a favorite among staff and guests, including our visitors from MiLEAP, and it perfectly captures our #WeAreSCCREA team's willingness to do whatever it takes to create memorable experiences for children and families.

There were lots of smiles, laughter, happy tears, and applause last week as families, friends, and faculty came together to celebrate this year’s Next STEP Transition Program completers. The special ceremony honored an amazing group of young adults whose hard work, growth, and accomplishments have prepared them for exciting new opportunities ahead. Throughout their time in the program, students worked hard to build employment and other skills while creating post-secondary plans that aligned with their individual interests, strengths, and goals.

We are incredibly proud of each student and look forward to seeing all they achieve in the future. Congratulations!

St. Clair County TEC students Michael Carrier and Blake Duvall, both in Metal Machining Technology, and Rori Cowhy, in Welding, recently traveled to Atlanta to compete at the 2026 National SkillsUSA Leadership & Skills Conference. While they didn't bring home medals, competing at the national level is a huge achievement, and we couldn't be more proud of them! We also want to congratulate TEC alumnus Lucas Bauman, a former Metal Machining student who now attends SC4. Competing in the postsecondary division, Lucas earned an impressive ninth-place finish in the nation. #WeAreSCCRESA
