This Manufacturing Day, more than 900 students from 10 high schools in St. Clair County experienced modern manufacturing and learned about career opportunities offered by local businesses. Students were given guided tours, interactive demonstrations, and thorough explanations of manufacturing processes. The eight-day event was coordinated by St. Clair County RESA's Blue Water College Access Network (BWCAN), led by Erin Schweihofer. We want to give a huge thanks to the 14 companies that participated: ALD Thermal, Axiom Group, Blue Water Control, Bio Pro, Inc., Greene Group, Michigan Metal Coatings, Motherson, Norma Group, PTM Corporation, Pier One Polymers, Prosper Tech Machine & Tool, SABA North America, U.S. Farathane, and ZF Axle, as well as the school staff who made these tours possible.

Last week, our Second Shift Academy for middle and high school educators collaborated with Friends of the St. Clair River. Second Shift gives educators the opportunity to learn from the perspective of students and apply that knowledge to their classrooms. They began by collecting water samples at Lighthouse Beach and testing the samples for microplastics, both visible and invisible to the naked eye. Using this as an entry point to thinking about garbage as more than just litter, they were able to consider how they can use hands-on learning to encourage students to question the world around them and get them to seek knowledge based on first-hand experience. #WeAreSCCRESA #ProjectBasedLearning

💧 Filtered Water/For Drinking: safe for drinking, food prep, and brushing teeth
🚰 Not for Drinking/Handwashing Only: safe for washing hands and dishes, but not for drinking
Even in newer buildings, lead can sometimes enter water through pipes and fixtures. These new filters add a protective layer—not because anything is wrong, but to keep everyone safer. #WeAreSCCRESA
